Designing Power BI Dashboards Executives Actually Use

Executive dashboards should be built around decisions, not data. Start by asking what actions the leadership team takes weekly and monthly, then design each page to support exactly one of those decisions.

Visual hierarchy matters more than visual variety. A strong KPI band at the top, one primary trend, and supporting breakdowns below — that structure outperforms creative layouts every time. Automated refresh, data-quality indicators and mobile layouts complete the picture.

Finally, govern the semantic model. When every number on the dashboard traces back to a single governed definition, arguments about whose figures are right disappear — and meetings shift from reconciling data to acting on it.
